This Cardiac First Response – Community Level course developed by PHECC, the Pre- Hospital Emergency Care Council, is a national standard for people dealing with a heart attack, stroke or choking. A Cardiac First Responder, with the correct use of CPR and an AED, is an important link in the chain of survival and plays a vital role in keeping a person alive until they receive expert medical care.
The course content will include:
- Recognising the signs and symptoms of the four major emergencies: Heart Attack, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest & Foreign Body Airway Obstruction
- Recovery position
- Appropriate use of an AED machine
- Correct operation and safe use of the AED machine
- Basic techniques of CPR (Adult/Child/Infant)
- Barrier devices in CPR
- Choking (FBAO) – conscious and unconscious
- Dealing with Heart Attack
- Aspirin administration for heart attack
- Dealing with Stroke
- Calling the Emergency Services
- Skills practice and Assessment
